Common RED FLAGS in tenants

Proper screening of a potential tenant is crucial to help mitigate potential issues down the line. Here are some common red flags you can identify:

  1. Inaccurate and Incomplete Applications: Not completing the application form with all the required information can indicate dishonesty.
  2. Poor Credit History: Late payments, backlisting’s and concurrent credit loans indicate financial instability.
  3. Previous Evictions and rental agents: Payment behaviour, outstanding balances indicate that the tenant will not pay rental timeously every month and might lead to an eviction.
  4. Insufficient Income: Balance income versus expenses. (Typically, someone needs to earn three times the rent.)
  5. Negative References: Check with the previous rental agency if payment was received promptly every month. Verify the tenant’s employment history.
  6. Suspicious Documentation: Inconsistent fonts and formatting, document manipulation may indicate fraud
  7. Pushy Behaviour and bad attitude: Rude and aggressive behaviour during the application process can be a sign of difficulties
  8. Frequent Moves: Frequently moving may indicate instability
